After reading Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "Letter from a Birmingham Jail" written in 1963 and watching the news clip covering protests that followed after George Floyd was killed in the summer of 2020, what
connections can you draw? Do you agree with the mayor's assessment that the violent response was "not
in the spirit of Martin Luther King"? Why or why not? How does MLK's spirit of compromise differ from
