Bess raced across the gym floor. WHAP! She hit the shuttlecock over the net towards Pat’s far corner. Bess quickly returned to the center court so she was ready to run in any direction. WHAP! Pat returned to the volley. Bess stepped sideways and tapped the shuttlecock gently. It popped over the net. Pat ran forward quickly. But it was too late. Pat fell under the net and slid across the floor to Bess’s side.
