I think that all factory farms should be shut down, and made
illegal. Small farms are a much better way to produce meat for
food. Factory farms contribute to greenhouse gases and they
treat the animals inhumanely.
Factory farms are well known to contribute greenhouse
gases. They produce more than the whole global transportation industry. In fact,
at some factory farm sites, according to the Environmental Integrity Project, the
air is dirtier than it is in the U. S.’s most polluted cities. The Food and Agriculture
Organization of the United Nations (FAO) says that factory farms are responsible
for 18 percent of all human-induced greenhouse gas emissions, and the
methane released from billions of imprisoned animals on factory farms are 70
times more damaging per ton to the earth’s atmosphere than CO2.
Cows, chickens, and pigs crammed into factory farms are imprisoned and
tortured. The conditions are unsanitary and unhealthy, and sickness is all too
common. To make up for the stress, overcrowding, and lack of vitamin D, the
animals are pumped full of antibiotics which not only end up in our food supply,
they also pose a direct threat to the environment when they run off into our
lakes, rivers, aquifers and drinking water
Let’s stop this madness today. Vow to eat less meat, and purchase it from
small farmers who raise animals on a sustainable scale.
