Homer's epic narrative "The Odyssey" is about the strenuous and long journey of Odysseus and his men in their attempt to return back home to Ithaca. They had to endure a lot of hardships, get attacked and the men killed before anyone could reach Ithaca.

In Book XI of the epic, Odysseus had gone to consult with the blind prophet Teiresias about his future journey towards home. Circe had told him to go to the land of the dead and ask Teiresias about the journey ahead. So, when in Book XI he met the ghost of the blind prophet, he was told about how he should encounter various adversaries. He also mentioned about the suitors that will meet him in his palace and what he should do with them. This prediction of Teiresias gave an idea of what Odysseus should expect on his way. So, the conflicts revealed by the prophet reveals the theme of the whole journey. They also act as guides for the future actions that Odysseus should do.
