Read the following paragraph. F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway, two of the most notable 20th century American authors, were similar in some ways. Both were born in the Midwest, Hemingway in Illinois and Fitzgerald in Minnesota. In World War I Hemingway drove an ambulance for the Italian army. Fitzgerald served in the U. S. army. During the 1920s the two men lived and wrote in Paris amid a group of expatriate writers who drew insight and skill from one another. During their lifetime, Hemingway and Fitzgerald wrote prolifically and acquired recognition and fame.
