When my mom rescued a tiny kitten trapped in a dumpster and brought it home, my hopes were high that we had our newest family pet. I could see that my dad would be
an ally when he nearly died laughing at the kitten's playfulness. Jack, my oldest brother
said he thought the creature looked like a rat and probably had a brain the size of a pea.
I realized convincing my family to keep her might be harder than I expected. Then my
mother came into the room carrying a mile high pile of laundry. You guessed it, our little
visitor jumped onto her leg; my mother went down and the clothes went up...and then
down! I was thankful that my mother was busy the rest of the afternoon. Peering into the
bags of groceries she bought, I was happy to see that she had bought enough cat food
to feed a feline army. I named the kitty D. D. for dumpster diver. I am going to love her
for a million years.
