A specific metaphor used in " Life without go-go boots" is the mentioning of a potato salad, which has a very short shelf life. This metaphor is used to compare it with fashion trends that also have a very short "life". In fact, the main theme of the story is that following trends is useless and senseless because they change constantly and they make people waste their lives. In the story, Barbara, the main character, is obsessed with fashion trends and her mother tries to show her how pointless is her obsession because fashion trends are temporary.

its hard for some people to get along and that’s the case for douglass and canot. most of the time when people do not agree with each other its because they have different presperctives, and that is the case here.

captain canot was never a slave so but he was a slaver and a slave ship captain and just like the slave master's he tought it was it was totally normal, he used captain conot is a cruel man who enjoys whipping slaves but never got whipped he saw it has a destiny for the slave to be a slave and the slaver to be a slaver but douglass has suffered whoppings cut even for no reason sometimes. douglass believed that slavery was not natural to black people, they need to study and learn how to read and write. he knew they have rights.

it was really not the captain’s fault he was just brainwashed by the system and when your brainwashed by the system its hard not to be brainwashed. but the reason douglass wants this is because he has suffered he knows how it feels and will do anything to stop that.

well stockyards mean a large yard containing pens and sheds, typically adjacent to a slaughterhouse, in which livestock is kept and sorted. and i'm assuming that by party you mean a large group of people which does make sense because chicago is a very crowded place much like new york. stockyards tend to take up a lot of room due to needing the area for pens to keep animals in and the fact that stockyards are usually right by slaughterhouse where they process and distribute the product. so its much like a zoo but with some dead animal products close by.
