Within the confines of the four major temperaments, Alice (from the story - Alice in Wonderland) can be described as a melancholic whose demeanor is constantly cheerful, always forbearing, ready to help, gentle and kind, every courteous, trusts easily, very well-mannered, and curious.

Regarding her relationship with other characters, with the animals, she is very kind and they seem to return the kindness to her with perhaps, the exception of the Cheshire Cat whose occasional mischief goes beyond his grin.

The story as it is told depicts Alice as the center of the story, a kind and gentle maiden who has learned to tolerate the occasional wickedness by her stepsisters and her step-mum. Besides her immediate family, she encounters antagonists during her trip to Wonderland where all the characters there seem to want to confuse, and hurt her.

In a culmination of all of this confusion and bewilderment, at the main conflict, she faces a trial and in reacting to them, refers to all the creatures as "nothing but a pack of cards". This particular conflict is resolved when she wakes up and discovers that she is no longer in Wonderland. It was a dream. Her sister to whom she gives an account of all she saw in her dream quickly understands that Alice is growing up, and those childhood fantasies which bewilder her no longer have such effects on her.
