'The House Taken Over' is a short story written by Julio Cortazar. The story is about two siblings living in their ancestor's house which was eventually taken over by mysterious forces.

The major fantastic event that takes place in the story is 'taking over of the house by unknown entities'. This 'taking over' of the house by these forces, that remained unknown throughout the story, begins by first producing noises, when the siblings began to hear these voices, they ceased going to those areas of the houses from where these noises are coming. Slowly-slowly these noices 'took over' of the whole house rendering the siblings homeless.

The response that the two siblings gave to this major fantastic event was by ceasing to fight these forces. They let those forces 'take over' their ancestral house. Instead of combating with these unknown forces, which is trying to take over their house, they allowed them to take full control over their house, which results in the homelessness of these two siblings.
