TIME REMAINING 01:53:37 Read the excerpt from The Number Devil. "By the way, the reverse is true as well," the number devil added. "The reverse? What do you mean?" "Simple," said the number devil with a grin. "Just as there are infinitely large numbers, there are infinitely small numbers. And an infinite number of infinitely small numbers." And so saying, he twirled his walking stick like a propeller in Robert's face. I'm starting to feel dizzy, thought Robert. It was the same feeling he'd had on the slide. "Stop!" he shouted. "Why so jittery, Robert?" asked the number devil. "It's perfectly harmless." What is the number devil trying to accomplish? He is trying to support Robert’s understanding. He is trying to make Robert wake up from his dream. He is trying to make fun of Robert's limited math knowledge. He is trying to get Robert to do something against his will.

Which line in this excerpt from the great gatsby by f. scott fitzgerald contains a simile? about half way between west egg and new york the motor-road hastily joins the railroad and runs beside it for a quarter of a mile, so as to shrink away from a certain desolate area of land. this is a valley of ashes—a fantastic farm where ashes grow like wheat into ridges and hills and grotesque gardens where ashes take the forms of houses and chimneys and rising smoke and finally, with a transcendent effort, of men who move dimly and already crumbling through the powdery air. occasionally a line of grey cars crawls along an invisible track, gives out a ghastly creak and comes to rest, and immediately the ash-grey men swarm up with leaden spades and stir up an impenetrable cloud which screens their obscure operations from your sight.
