Jonathan Swift's "A Modest Proposal"

How does one explain to the powerful, rich, and arrogant lord the level to which his economic and political suppression of a people renders them inhuman?  Since such a lord is unmindfully uncaring, the best approach would be to satirize the story so that the picture is painted in irony.  This is what Jonathan Swift swiftly achieved in the novel "A Modest Proposal."  In it, he lamented the poverty of oppressed people of Ireland by their Lordly masters, the British.  He suggested or proposed that since the Irish could not be allowed to survive as human beings, the British Lords should consider eating their children so that they could, wilfully, reduce the Irish population and so finish them off completely.

In this satirical novel, "A Modest Proposal" Jonathan Swift narrated the unfortunate fate of Ireland in the hands of England.  Jonathan, writing in the form of an economic treatise, ironically proposed to Britain to ease the burden and poverty of Ireland by killing off the Irish children to serve as snacks for the British Lords.  There was a time Britain was exploiting Ireland out of hatred for their being Papists,  giving Jonathan the chance to lament on the deplorable situation of the oppressed people of Ireland.
