At the beginning of Wife of Bath's Tale we can see that the knight's behavior towards women is very different from his behavior at the end of the tale. In the beginning the knight commits a crime against a woman, which shows that in addition to being aggressive and disrespectful, he does not understand the simplest desires of women, let alone their greatest desires. This crime causes the knight to lose the understanding of women in the kingdom and the chance to regain consideration and be accepted again into society is discovering the greatest desire of women.

When looking for this answer, the knight discovers that women have different desires and the biggest desire they have is quite simple. This changes the way he sees women in part, but his change only occurs when he opposes regretting marrying an ugly old woman, she shows him how a faithful and respectful woman is more important than a beautiful and young.
