HamletHamlet is the protagonist of the play. He is the only son of King Hamlet and Queen Gertrude, and the nephew of Claudius. He is sarcastic, bitter, cynical, and introspective. He is very indecisive and spends much of his time analyzing his motives, choices, and actions. Hamlet's hatred of women is evident in his interactions with his mother and Ophelia. For much of the play, Hamlet seems to be obsessed with thoughts of revenge and self harm.

GertrudeGertrude is Hamlet's mother and formerly King Hamlet's wife. After King Hamlet's death, she marries his brother, Claudius. She is very fond of her son, and his pretended madness hurts her deeply. However, she is not trustworthy: she is quick to remarry after her husband’s death, even though she swore to him that she would not marry again.

ClaudiusClaudius is King Hamlet's brother and Hamlet’s uncle. He marries his brother’s wife, Gertrude, after secretly murdering King Hamlet. Claudius is a shrewd and ruthless schemer. He will not hesitate to kill his own relatives to ensure his safety (as revealed by his plot to kill Hamlet) or for the sake of power (as his murder of his brother shows).

PoloniusPolonius is a lord in the king’s court. He is the father of Laertes and Ophelia. He is a rather proud man. He is quick to jump to conclusions, as is evident in his belief that Hamlet’s madness was caused by his unrequited love for Ophelia. He is mistakenly killed by Hamlet.

OpheliaOphelia is the beautiful daughter of Polonius and is in love with Prince Hamlet. She is very obedient to her father and brother. However, she is unable to deal with Hamlet's rejection of her and goes mad following her father’s death.

LaertesLaertes is the son of Polonius and brother of Ophelia. He cares for his sister and looks after her. At Ophelia's funeral, Laertes jumps into his sister’s grave to be with her. In contrast to Hamlet, Laertes is rash and easily manipulated. He makes decisions quickly, sometimes without weighing all the options.

Gertrude Gertrude is Hamlet's mom and previously King Hamlet's better half. Subsequent to King Hamlet's demise, she weds his sibling, Claudius. She is partial to her child, and his imagined frenzy harms her profoundly. Nonetheless, she isn't reliable: she rushes to remarry after her significant other's demise, despite the fact that she committed to him that she would not wed once more.  

Claudius Claudius is King Hamlet's sibling and Hamlet's uncle. He weds his sibling's better half, Gertrude, after furtively killing King Hamlet. Claudius is a wise and heartless rascal. He won't spare a moment to slaughter his own family members to guarantee his security (as uncovered by his plot to execute Hamlet) or for power (as his homicide of his sibling shows).  

Polonius Polonius is a master in the lord's court. He is the dad of Laertes and Ophelia. He is a somewhat pleased man. He rushes to make quick judgment calls, as is obvious in his conviction that Hamlet's frenzy was brought about by his solitary love for Ophelia. He is erroneously executed by Hamlet.  

Ophelia Ophelia is the delightful little girl of Polonius and is enamored with Prince Hamlet. She is faithful to her dad and sibling. Be that as it may, she can't manage Hamlet's dismissal of her and goes distraught after her dad's passing.  

Laertes Laertes is the child of Polonius and sibling of Ophelia. He really focuses on his sister and cares for her. At Ophelia's burial service, Laertes hops into his sister's grave to be with her. Rather than Hamlet, Laertes is ill-advised and handily controlled. He settles on choices rapidly, here and there without gauging every one of the choices.
