O Mr. Vonnegut explains he is just a man who has experienced war,
been a farmer, is a father, and earned all he has through hard
work. He further explains that hi books are not full of wildness
and sex, but rather real people, whose language is coarse and
loud, whose characters are rough. He reminds the school board
wars have been fought to keep people free to read what they
want and to learn new ideas and to not be like the countries he
has fought against.
Mr. Vonnegut is angry and yells at the school board for burning his
books and others. He promises revenge and destruction of Drake
should the burnings continue.
