Sometimes, California condors cannot care for their young. Zoos help out these endangered birds. They step in to care for the chicks. Zookeepers put their hands in puppets that look like adult condors. The puppets act like the chicks' parents. They feed the chicks. They clean the chicks. They even play with the chicks. All this time, the zoos play tapes of condor noises. Chicks don't know that people, not condors, are caring for them! The chicks are by the puppets. replaced crowded warned fooled

a few things can be inferred from the excerpt. one thing is the fact the husband and his partner are so comfortable/intimate with each other they don't feel the need to use proper english with one another. another thing is the character has a different relationship with their mother than they do with the husband.
