So, I'm writing a story. It's not for school, just a thing to pass the time, but it might be helpful for English class when school starts up. I don't know how to word this one part, and I thought, since writing is sort of educational I'd see if anyone here would have an idea. So, in my current paragraph I so far have: "I took the knife in two hands and used it like a sword to slash through the tent's thick canvas. Outside, in the surrounding camp I saw people--" I want to convey that outside the tent, people were fighting and some were running for cover and children were crying. Pretty much a scene of total chaos. But I don't know how to convey that. Any ideas? :) If this isn't an appropriate question for just let me know and report it, I guess? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
