A smell fills the air as Marie cooks garlic and onions for her known–to–many marinara sauce. After the onions become clear , Marie uses her chef’s knife to slide finely diced tomatoes into the pan. The tumbling tomatoes make noise when they hit the hot surface, their juices bubbling as the tomatoes start to cook.
