For example, a pianist might be satisfied with the way he plays a certain piece until he hear another pianist play it with more expression. Another benefit of competition is the burst of energy that it triggers. If you've ever run in a race, you probably understand this very well. You feel your heart start to pound in stronger rhythm standing at the starting line. That excitement compounds itself as the race begins. This heightened excitement translate into greater speed and endurance.
