The author tries to make the story sound scary and mysterious to make us believe that he had just killed someone, and was going to secretly bury them. In real life, when you see people on the news that got caught or something for a crime, they usually look scary, so the author tried to make the story sound suspenseful just to get us to the end finding out that it was just his pet gold fish.
