Chapter 26 Written Response Question
In Chapter 26, Scout's teacher, Miss Gates, tells the class, “That's the difference between America and
Germany... Over here we don't believe in persecuting anybody. Persecution comes from people who are
prejudiced." Scout is confused by her teacher's obvious hypocrisy: there are many prejudiced people in
Maycomb who do persecute others.
Directions: Choose ONE of the two prompts below. Use examples from the book and/or film clips and
summaries to support your answer. Answer with your best writing in paragraph form.
