The digestive system helps the body maintain equilibrium by providing nutrients to the body and ensuring factors like blood sugars are maintained. The endocrine system also uses antagonistic hormones (such as insulin and glucagon) to maintain body homeostasis. The excretory system ensures that there are minimum toxic substances accumulating in the body. The liver breaks down toxins into less harmless substances that are later excreted by the kidneys.

Since body systems are interconnected, then if one system fails to maintain homeostasis, then the other body system will be affected and will also attempt to adjust. An example is an increase in temperatures of the body that will affect digestive system because the enzymes of the body should work optimally at body temperatures.

The cardiovascular and respiratory system work together to ensure a good supply of oxygen to tissues and the removal of carbon-dioxide. When there is low oxygen supply in the blood or high demand (due to strenuous body activities), the respiration rate of the lungs increases and the rate of heartbeat.
