The memoir ends with the following lines: "From the depths of the mirror, a corpse was contemplating me. The look in his eyes as he gazed at me has never left me" (Wiesel 115). Explain the significance of these lines.

Eliezer was giving a personal account of suffering in the Holocaust, The lines shows that although He has survived the war physically, the suffering he experienced killed his soul.

Explanation:

He depicts separation between his sense of self and his identity as a holocaust victim. in the line "the look in his eyes as he stared into mine" The lines shows that the war had affected him  so much that he sees himself as two distinct beings.

Futhermore, he tries to separate himself from the experience. he believes that the image of the corpse will stay with him but he has found a sense of identity which will go beyond the holocaust. this means that although there is sadness and darkness in the passage it still shows hope. Eliezer tries to cast aside the bad memories he experienced by separating himself from it and moving on.
