What type of passage is this?
A
historical fiction because Tia Town really existed in the past
B. mystery fiction because the text keeps the reader guessing
C. realistic fiction because it describes a real life scenario
D.
Science fiction because the events take place in the future
It was 1800 hours in Tia Town, and the energy stores
were closed for twenty seconds. This was all the time the
operators needed to recharge their batteries and get
ready for the next 86,380 seconds. At precisely 1800
hours and zero seconds, the residents of Tia Town arrived
near the energy stores. The stores' windows would open
for one second per person so he or she could be exposed
to the energy spray and get their vitamins, minerals, and
water for the day
The mayor of Tia Town encouraged people to use
drive-thru stores, but they all preferred standing in front of
the windows for exercise. This was the only time of the
day when people were unstrapped from their seatbelts
They felt happy to be doing something other than pushing
buttons in their titanium cars. The happiness was so faint
an emotion that the people of Tia Town wanted to
experience it even if it came from being near the energy

Which word best describes the author's tone in this excerpt from "that spot" by jack london? i don’t think much of stephen mackaye any more, though i used to swear by him. i know that in those days i loved him more than my own brother. if ever i meet stephen mackaye again, i shall not be responsible for my actions. it passes beyond me that a man with whom i shared food and blanket, and with whom i mushed over the chilcoot trail, should turn out the way he did. i always sized steve up as a square man, a kindly comrade, without an iota of anything vindictive or malicious in his nature. i shall never trust my judgment in men again. why, i nursed that man through typhoid fever; we starved together on the headwaters of the stewart; and he saved my life on the little salmon. and now, after the years we were together, all i can say of stephen mackaye is that he is the meanest man i ever knew. a. excited b. ironic c. indignant d. playful

The harlem renaissance dawned in an era of pervasive racism and segregation. although legally "free," many african americans were still bound by ideas that had their roots in the slavery of earlier centuries. identity and freedom are important ideas presented in many of the poems from the harlem renaissance. furthermore, the values of identity and freedom are not unique to particular times and places. as hughes expresses in "dream variations," all humans want to be able to develop their identities in freedom. what role does freedom play in the poems you read in this unit? what is required of a society to enable each individual to be true to his or her identity and be free to live by that identity? write about at least three of the poems, describing how the poet uses imagery to depict freedom and identity, the lack of it, or the desire for it.
