Explanation:

Miep Gies was mostly famous for helping Jew families (including Frank family) hide during the Nazi occupation of Amsterdam, for over a two-year period.

In this excerpt we see her motivation for such a heroic act. She didn't do it for fame or publicity; she did it only because she considered it to be her moral duty as a human being helping another human being in a distress. She also states that if she hadn't done so, she knew she wouldn't have been able to sleep at night and live with it.

Additionally, she states that helping other people should be a normal, everyday thing, rather then being regarded as something special.

All this can be summarized into her statement: "People should never think that you have to be a very special person to help those who need you".
