From Boy to Knight
In the Middle Ages, knights were
respected for their skill and bravery.
But there were many steps to
becoming a knight. First, at the age of
seven, a boy would begin working for
a knight as a page. A page did such
things as serve meals and wash the
knight's clothes. He also trained to
ride horses and fight. Next, when the
boy was fifteen, he became a squire. A
squire cared for the knight's horses
and was taught real fighting skills.
Finally, when the squire was twenty-
one years old, he could become a
knight.
