Dear Jem,

Your three decisions have presented how much you have matured throughout your story. My perceptions of you altered when you stood up to your dad, went up to the Radley porch, and saved your sibling. Overall, my perceptions of you changed in a positive way.

When you, Dill, and Scout snuck out to go the Radley porch, I was not a fan of it. I preferred that people would mind their own business, but I understand that you were curious and wanted to have a little look. “´Scout, I’m tellin‘ you for the last time, shut your trap or go home—I declare to the Lord you’re gettin’ more like a girl every day!´¨ I feel like you could have been a bit more nicer to Scout, but I understand that you were hot-headed because you were sneaking to the porch. ¨With that, I had no option but to join them.¨ I felt bad for Scout because she felt pressured into doing something dangerous. Even though I felt like all of this could have been avoided, I understand that you wanted to see what was all about the Radley family and their house.

When you stood up to your father due to his dangerous situation, you saved his life. You knew how deadly your father´s situation was, so you stood up to your father, which saved him from the group of men. The refusal you made by not leaving is symbolic to me due to the fact that it shows that you are growing up and becoming responsible. ¨He knew it, but he was going (downtown) anyway.¨ You, Dill, and Scout who came with you eased the tension that progressed later on. ¨I sought once more for a familiar face...´I go to school with Walter´ I began again. “He’s your boy, ain’t he? Ain’t he, sir?” Mr. Cunningham was moved to a faint nod.” Scout eased the tension by talking to one of the men about something that he was interested in. ¨Atticus had said it was the polite thing to talk to people about what they were interested in.¨ Scout took Atticus's advice and eased tensions by being polite and having conversations with one of the men. ¨He squatted down and took me by both shoulders. ´I’ll tell him you said hey, little lady,´ he said. Then he straightened up and waved a big paw.´Let’s clear out,´ he called. “´Let’s get going, boys.´” Scout managed to have a polite conversation with one of the men, which then progressed to the men peacefully leaving. Due to the fact that you followed your father and brought Scout and Dill with you, all three of you saved his life.

Even though you did not make wise decisions by sneaking out to see the Radley porch, I feel like you learned a lesson from it, Protecting your father by disobeying him showed me how you are maturing and becoming more responsible. Thank you for maturing and learning from your past mistakes and protecting your family. One request I would make is for you to not sneak out to the Radley porch again. Overall, I am proud that you are maturing throughout the story and how much you are growing.
