Do you think John Gardner's perspective on Beowulfmakes Grendel seem more sympathetic or more monstrous?John Gardner’s perspective of Grendel makes him seem more sympathetic. From Grendel's perspective he is not a flat character, he has feelings just like everyone else. We were able to see that he is very similar to the other humans. He has emotions, and thinks just like the humans who think he is an unthinkable monster. We found out that Grendel thinks of the people the same as they think as him. From Beowulf's perspective Grendel was a flat character, with no emotion, no thoughts, no reasons, just a big ugly killing ogre. In Grendel's perspective we found that was not true. He had reasons for killing, he felt lonely at times, angry, sad, and he even felt like the good person because he thought the humans were the bad guys.
