Special gases in the earth's atmosphere are called "greenhouse gases." these gases make the earth warm enough for us to live. other animals and plants also need the gases to live. certain things that we do put extra greenhouse gases in the air. when we use electricity, drive cars, cut down and burn trees, or make things in factories we put extra greenhouse gases in the air. these extra greenhouse gases cause the earth's temperature to go up. if the temperatures keep rising, the polar ice caps could melt more quickly. changing temperatures affect other things about the climate, too.
