Even when her maid Euryclea told her that her husband Odysseus had returned and had killed them, Penelope did not believe her. She rather stated that "It is some god who is angry with the suitors for their great wickedness, and has made an end of them". She thinks that it was the gods who had decided to relieve her of her burden of the suitors, and did not want to believe the news that her husband had returned and was the one who killed them all.
