earning my rocket
by lakshya motam
i’ve always dreamt of rockets and how it would be like to create one, to see one fly through the sky, leaving its cloud-like marks behind itself. i believe rockets have amazing potential and i’ve wanted to try launching one so bad; like a model rocket. however, when i ask my mom and dad if i could get a rocket, they politely said i had to earn my money. this means doing more chores and pleasing my mom and dad more often so that i can save my earnings slowly. this is not bad, and i’m not complaining at all. but a good model rocket would cost me at least 50 dollars! i would have to work very hard and do lots of chores to earn something at a price this. one task, like washing the dishes, would earn me 1 dollar. and my friend’s mom, would offer me 3 dollars every time i would babysit their baby. so, i have an acceptable source of money for now.
however, i decided to bring it to another level. i was particularly good at science in my school, and people would always envy my strength for it. so, i thought, “what if i use my skill in science to earn money? ”. i thought that people would be willing to pay me money for completing their science homework, because they would always be good at some other subject, but never as good as science as me. and it made sense too! rockets were a part of physics and physics were a part of science! today was sunday so i decide to use this master plan of mine tomorrow.
when i woke up today, i knew today was the day. i waited the whole until it was time to execute the plan. before i knew it, i had completed lunch and was sitting in science class, having the teacher teach topics i already knew; ecosystems. when the class was over, the teacher gave us our homework, before we moved to another class that day. then it was my time to make a move. i looked behind the classroom to see my classmate have no idea what was even taught. i walked to the end of the classroom and approached him.
“so, are you having trouble with your homework? ” i asked eagerly. he then started ranting about science class and i waited for him to finish before saying my next line i have planned. “what if i told you that i could do your assignment for you? ” i asked. he said “of course”. then, i asked for 2 dollars! as i got the money

Which statement best describes the use of satire in this passage? read the passage from chapter 7 of animal farm as clover looked down the hillside her eyes filled with tears. if she could have spoken her thoughts, it would have been to say that this was not what they had aimed at when they had set themselves years ago to work for the overthrow of the human race. these scenes of terror and slaughter were not what they had looked forward to on that night when old major first stirred them to rebellion. if she herself had had any picture of the future, it had been of a society of animals set free from hunger and the whip, all equal, each working according to his capacity, the strong protecting the weak, as she had protected the lost brood of ducklings with her foreleg on the night of major's speech. instead-she did not know why—they had come to a time when no one dared speak his mind, when fierce, growling dogs roamed everywhere, and when you had to watch your comrades torn to pieces after confessing to shocking crimes. there was no thought of rebellion or parody is used to illustrate the impact of stalin's purge. ridicule is used to show the gullibility of the russian citizens. reversal is used to show how clover, representing the people, has changed ideals. personification is used to show the reader stalin's thoughts and feelings
