your poem
now it is time to write your own poem! what will be the theme or topic of your poem? consider what mood you want to create. poems can paint pictures, create ideas, arouse emotions. think about how you can use poetic devices to communicate with your readers. will you use form, personification, an extended metaphor, a childlike rhyme scheme? you may choose to use one or all of these. you many decide to use other poetic devices studied in these lessons. be creative!

I'm driving along with the traffic

Going about my day

Driving without even thinking

Maybe I'll care to the children later on

I'm just being the me I can be

when out of nowhere

you spill your chemicals in my highways and my roads

stopping all traffic

You contaminate us and sicken us

You make me worry about my kids right around the corner

So I hurry home

My kids are present

but their lives are gone

then you cut us and beat us

burn us and trap our homes with plastic

Are we food or playthings?

You're killing yourself now when you contaminated us and eat us

You pollute our naturally beautiful homes

I can't even see my way around traffic

What are we to you?

We feel and see and think just as you do

And you want to eat us but you pollute your source of food

Does that make sense?

I just want to be the fish I am

Travelling in school's of fish

And driving in a traffic of fish

But you kill us and beat us and consume us

I just want to be the fish I am

Floating aloof in my once crystal clear water

free of plastic and toxic waste

With my family of fish

But you kill us off with your waste

(sorry I didn't really know how to end it)
