For example:

FANBOYS conjunction:

i ate ice cream and pet the dog.

Subordinating conjunction:

i ate ice cream while petting the dog.

The FANBOYS conjunction makes it seem like i just did those things and it doesn't establish a relationship between the activites. This is different to the subordinating conjunction which lets you know i did them together.
