It was a hot, sunny day, humid too.  It had rained constantly the past few days, but in hindsight, that seemed almost a blessing as Paul sat miserable in his sweltering house.  He checked the refrigerator for something cool to drink, found nothing and decided to treat himself to an ice cream.  

He put on his favorite short-short lavender shorts, a blue shirt and a hat that hid his crimson curls. As soon as his feet touched the pavement and he began to walk down the busy street, a hunch told him that someone was watching him. Maybe he was imagining it?  Why would anyone be looking at him? Yet, when he turned around he realized that several people were staring at him.  It was the look in their eyes that startled him, it was a clear message. "What are you doing dressed like that? Have you had no shame?"

We live in a society where we are increasingly judged for everything.  Friends, family, even strangers feel they have the right to make us feel inferior simply because we do not meet their individual criteria for what is acceptable or correct in our ever evolving and demanding society.  

More often than not however, their criticisms turn personal rather than constructive and their unwitting victims rather than helping them meet a standard that is oftentimes meaningless.  We find ourselves judged about things as simple as the shoes we wear or our taste in music and over things as deeply personal as our faith, political beliefs and sexuality, infiltrating our private lives until the idea of being "you" has become an abstract concept.

Think about a time in your life when someone made fun of you for something other than your content. So maybe someone made fun of your clothes or your shoes or anything you were wearing. Or maybe someone judged you for the music you listen to. I hope this helped you think of something!

i would like to compare these two interpretations of the crucible : 1) eric christ's interretation and wade bradford's interpretation. the main differences between there interretaions is that in the first one you can notice direct link to joseph mccarthy whereas the second one represents how the town is filled with hysteria.the second interpretation shows that author believes that the story   about puritan town in salem is based on actual events while the first example shows the sencible reference to sort of bias.

first of all the mood needs to be defined: it is obviously a mood of deceitful relief and serenity. why? because the cape horn is one of the most violent maritime regions of earth and although it has been left behind, it is a personification of ahab’s delirium and the fact that the end of the passage speaks about it about being “hidden” but “raving” immediately conveys the feeling the calm is not permanent but fleeting.

furthermore, the oxymoron “mild stun'sails” is the first instance of such feeling as the adjective “mild” is associated with “stunned” underscoring the fleeting nature of this “tranquil” moment. and the contrasts keep piling up, with the opposition between “dark den” and “blessed light and air” to end with the final conclusion that leaves the reader with the uneasy knowledge that this is just a reprieve.
