The environment needs to be clean, for the life the earth holds today, and for the life that hasn't yet arrived. Build up of foreign wastes, the leakage of chemicals from human development, and the release of access gases from daily human expenditures are among some of the pollutants posing a threat to our fragile ecosystems. Picture a world where all of the water is polluted, animals no longer have fresh water to drink, acid rain brought upon by air pollution damages plants leaves, threatening the photosynthesis process. There we have too major problems, if the plants aren't able to feed themselves they die off, lowering air quality, and no longer are available to the lower part of the food chain. Consequentially the primary consumers die off, which leads to a mass extinction moving up the chain.  This is just one of the reasons we need to protect our planet.
