the records he broke as a pilot. he owned and ran dozens of businesses in every field, from building airplanes to making
medicine.
in his later years, hughes became a recluse. obsessed by worries about germs and illness, he turned into a lonely
hypochondriac. one doctor described hughes in his final days as being like a neglected prisoner of war. in the end,
hughes died of heart failure as he was being flown to a hospital.
