I have found the novel Sense and Sensibility interesting so far. Jane Austen shows what life was like during that time in England for a woman. Woman were not allowed to express their opinion or their thoughts during that time, but Jane Austen is really expressing her thoughts though the characters like Elinor and and Marianne in the novel. Elinor and Marianne represent the title of the novel as well. Elinor is the Sense through her reasoning and thoughtful of other people while her young sister Marianne represents the Sensibility since she is more about passion. Marianne only is interested falling in love with a man who feels the same the way about certain things as she does which is why she is drawn to Willoughby. Elinor cares for others including Colonel Brandon who has deep for Marianne, who think that Colonel Brandon is too old even though he is only thirty-five and Elinor warns her sister that her open feelings for Willoughby will cause gossip. Overall, Jane Austen has done good showing a women’s feelings during this time through Elinor and Marianne and the novel itself keeps getting more interesting as I go along.
