after completing his quest for revenge, dantès does a good deed for his valued friend maximilian morrel. he reunites morrel with a lost lover. this kind act brings great joy to morrel.
dantès feels content after successfully reuniting the two lovers. he sails away to an unknown location, never to be seen again.
in prison, dantès learns who set him up and caused his downfall. he soon escapes from prison and sets off on a quest for revenge. he vows to spend his fortune rewarding those who have been kind to him and punishing those who have harmed him. over time, dantès brings complete devastation upon his enemies, danglars, fernand, caderousse, and villefort.
edmond dantès is a young, handsome, and talented man. after returning home from a long voyage, he's set to become captain of a ship and also marry his beautiful fiancÊe, mercÊdès.
dantèsâs perfect life causes three men, danglars, fernand, and caderousse, to feel extremely jealous. they conspire to get dantès jailed for a crime he didn't realize he had committed. their scheme succeeds when villefort, the assistant crown prosecutor, realizes he can further his career by playing along. dantès is left to rot in jail.
