brutus was a patriot and saved his country from ruins because he believed that caesar was sending rome to doom. he believed that caesar would have too much power and his ego would destroy rome. brutus could have been seen as a betrayer because he did have to murder his closest friend. he could have found another solution to stop caesar from ruling. brutus killed caesar because caesar was self-centered and would have put himself, wealth, and power before rome. some might believe that brutus betrayed caesar. although this is true to a certain extent, caesar would be an absolute ruler so no one would have been able to challenge his decisions. history has proven many times how power drives people insane. it was a battle between the greater good and one`s own moral. at caesar`s funeral, brutus gave a speech to the people: “not that i loved caesar less, but that i loved rome more. had you rather caesar were living and die all slaves, than that caesar were dead, to live all free men? ” even though he had to kill his friend, brutus saved the country from a tyrant. brutus killed caesar to save rome. one might ponder if brutus killed to gain like cassius did, but it is made clear in the book that brutus did not kill caesar to gain wealth or power. brutus told cassius that they will have to kill caesar: “let us be sacrifices, but not butchers… let's kill him boldly, but not wrathfully. this quote articulates brutus`s intent with the murder. it shows that brutus`s goal was to keep rome from disarray from caesar. in conclusion, brutus was a patriot because he saved rome from a ruler that would have had too much power and was too self-centered. he did it for the roman people and not for wealth or power. brutus did not kill caesar for selfish reasons but to save rome from being a slave to caesar`s ego
