[7] scrooge hung his head to hear his own words quoted by the spirit, and was overcome with penitence and grief.

In the above passage we learn that the ghost can see the future. The author creates tension by showing what will happen in the future, to the clerk’s family Scrooge and the ghost are seeing.  

Scrooge asks if Tim will live and the ghost tells him that the family will suffer the loss of the child and that he won’t be there to celebrate next Christmas, if nothing changes. This not only creates a tension in Scrooge’s mind but also in the minds of the readers as they don’t want to see the kid dying either and the readers wonder if there is anything that Scrooge can do to save the kid.

And when the ghost quotes Scrooges earlier words, the latter becomes ashamed of his earlier attitude and behavior.

The rest of the options are incorrect as they don’t flash back to an earlier time, no background information is being given and no turning point is being shown in the excerpt.

Explanation:

The author creates the tension by quickly showing what will happen to the family that Scrooge and the ghost are observing. That family will lose the child, because the ghost tells Scrooge that Tiny Tin will die in the future and that next Christmas that child will not be alive and partying with his family.
