Ethos is a rethorical device, related to the English word ethics and refers to the trustworthiness of the speaker or writer.  Ethos is an effective persuasive strategy because when we believe that the speaker does not intend to do us harm, we are more willing to listen to what he to say.

The speaker is making an appeal to ethics, tries to establish his credibility by making enumeration of what he has done and what he can do, like trying to convince the audience of his character and his capability.
