The description here is written with beautiful imagery. However, it only describes the lack of sophistication. The table is simply a "slab of timber" made with an axe that is held up by four stakes. The dishes and silverware are simple and homemade. They do not have anything that a person of this time period might consider sophisticated. It goes on to explain that the men use their hunting knives since there are no other knives. The description does make frontier life out to be rather idyllic, but it doesn't actually describe the frontier home. It also doesn't say anything about manners or family traditions.
