ray bradbury’s “a sound of thunder” is a better work of literature because “nethergrave” is more farfetched and seems a little bit creepier. in “a sound of thunder” eckels, our main idiot, decides he wants to shoot a t-rex and so he goes to time safari inc. in order to employ their services to go back in time and shoot himself a big dinosaur. so, he goes back in time and well he wimped out of shooting the dinosaur and runs of the trail that was set up in order to prevent anyone from messing up anything in the timeline via the butterfly effect. in “nethergrave” jeremy is a high school student who is constantly bullied for being athletically challenged. every year on his birthday his dad, that left him twelve years prior to when the story takes place because his parents got divorced, sends him the latest computer that was built with the highest specs that year. this year on jeremy’s birthday he finds out that his computer has some new program or some form of software in it that has a person under the alias of magus who basically tries to convince jeremy all his friends are leaving him and that he should join him in his online domain.

so, for how the two stories fit into science fiction i will talk about the technology, mechanics, and/or the events of the story. both stories definitely fall under science fiction, whether it be because of the time travel in “a sound of thunder” or the getting sucked into a computer in “nethergrave”. in a “sound of thunder” you could almost feel eckels fear when he finally see’s a massive t-rex. eckels was so excited to get to go back in time and to hunt the dinosaur but when he comes up on to face to face with one of the dinosaurs he ended up wimping out and became afraid. both of these short stories have incredible imagination because they both show insight into the future the way the time machine was described made it easily imaginable when the time machine is first discovered by eckels all he sees is tangle wires in boxes of steel. there is also a flickering orange silver and blue aurora. where the “nethergrave” seems to not have much detail on technology, in “a sound of thunder” you can feel the technology because it is more descriptive.
in “a sound of thunder” the tone seem stronger, to me than the “nethergrave” the author who wrote “a sound of thunder” he made sure that he showed the characters feeling in his writing. also the attitude of the characters was felt during the story while speaking to others within the story. when travis speaks to the main character eckels his attitude is showed very will when he talks to eckels. in the “nethergrave” it never seems like you really couldn’t relate to jeremys character. the author did spend a lot of time on describing jeremys day but it made it easier to understand him and to be shown that jeremy was not athletic that was also a shy teenager and that he disliked the world he lives in. he ended up spending time with his online friends making up lies to them because he felt like a pitiful person.
the theme of “a sound of thunder” is a science fiction story about man called eckels who hires a time travel company to take him on a hunting trip in the age of the dinosaur age and it reminds me of the “butterfly effect”. the butterfly effect states that a very small event can have a large unintended consequence because in the story eckels is warned to never step off the path because they can only hunt animals that are already are about to be killed if that the nature runs off course. the “nethergrave” theme is that you need to be careful on what you do on the internet because all it takes is to talk to the wrong people and then you can get yourself in trouble and then you will need to get . jeremy started talking to the wrong people and got his self in trouble.
“a sound of thunder” is more believable than “nethergrave” and it seems a lot less creepy. why i think that that “a sound of thunder” is more believable because it can be seem more realistic although time traveling is not realistic but it is kind of more realistic. compare the “nethergrave” because at first it seems realistic at first till jeremy get sucks in to the computer. that is why i would believe “a sound of thunder” more than “nethergrave” cause “nethergrave” just seem fake like it couldn’t have been real compared to “a sound of thunder” cause at least it was about going back in time to hunt for a dinosaur that actually once lived compared to getting sucked in a computer with a stranger.

Read the passage: canines may not be the deepest thinkers in the world. but perhaps that's for the best. the life of a dog—sitting alone all day, waiting for everyone to come home—can be pretty boring. super-smart animals would probably get totally stressed out, says university of pennsylvania researcher james serpell. look at it this way: if dogs were any smarter, they probably wouldn't choose to hang around with us. which best describes the tone of the passage?
