Many characters in The Diary of Anne Frank show courage in different forms.

Mr. Frank, by having thought of creating the hiding place in his very own workplace, and made it as cozy as possible to bring his family in. Miep, by bringing the family clothes, books, and news from the outside world, as well as arranging to get Mr. Dussel to the hideout. Mr. Kugler and Mr. Kleinman also show courage by keeping Anne's famiy and the others safely hidden, at their own risk.

However, I believe Anne herself to be the most corageous. Even though she lives in a doubly hostile environment, constantly judged, criticized and scolded by several members of the household and unable to leave, and separated as an early teenager from her world, she manages to give herself comfort by writing her diary, pursues her studies diligently, and asserts herself. She seeks to live as full a life as it is possible in her confinement. She encourages humor, as when she dresses up, together with Peter, to make their families laugh; she is careful of her toilette, she looks forward to the day when she will have her first period, and attempts a love relationship with Peter. Even under extremely dire conditions, as when she has to give up her bedroom only to be denied the use of the table in it to study, or after hearing of the terrible fate that her friends and the Jews in general are meeting, or after a close escape from being discovered, or when food becomes scarce and of poor quality, she does not lose heart; she listens to the news, and when she learns about D-day and the advancement of the Allied troops, she has hopes about the end of the war, and looks forward to returning to school. And despite the constant harrasment to which she is subjected by her mother, Mrs. van Daan, her own sister Margot, and Dr. Dussel, and despite her father's failure to offer her due support, she is well aware of her own value and asserts her independence. The honesty with which she writes about her feelings and impressions also bespeak great courage.
