Huckleberry Finn is a satire (hence the "shot" notice at the beginning) about society, slavery, and Christianity. Basically, it makes fun of these ideals by using, and sometimes exaggerating, those ideals in a different light. It is actually a pretty decent capture of what society was like then, because Samuel Clemins (Mark Twain) tried pretty hard to capture the dialect of the time and place.  

Some people don't like it because of that very effort, of trying to capture the dialect. Some don't like it because they don't understand it is satire. (So they claim it's racist, when even if you look at it as just a capture of the time.)

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a classic of American literature. The book has been praised for decades as a master achievement in literature. However, some have also been very critical of it.

People who praise the book have often talked about the accuracy of the events Twain describes.
