In the Gettysburg Address, Lincoln talks about the great sacrifices that the Founding Fathers made during the Revolutionary War. He argues that their fight is not over, and that it is up to the living Americans to continue their work. Therefore, he presents fighting for liberty as a duty of Americans. He claims that: "it is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced."
