Inferno canto iii: "through me pass into the painful city, through me pass into eternal grief, through me pass among the lost people. . before me nothing was created that was not eternal, and i last eternally. all hope abandon, you who enter here." at the gate of hell, dante sees this inscription that he calls “hard to take." how does the use of anaphora affect the impact of the inscription?

Anaphora is the rhetoric use of words referring to or replacing a word used earlier. The successive clauses lent  the inscription more emphasis by the (replacement words with) multiple intense ideas that describe the path.  It painted a clearer and more colorful picture of the path  Dante was passing.

on the other side of the picture, we must learn also to know that guerilla warfare against the germans in, let us say serbia or norway, us; that a successful russian offensive against the germans us; and that british successes on land or sea in any part of the world strengthen our hands.

the pronoun reference replaces a noun, but you have to make sure there's no room for confusion.

in the first sentence "her" could be referring to shely or to the sister. the answer there is "shelly called her sister and told her about the new baby."

in the second sentence "it" could be referring to the roof or the floor. the answer there is "since the roof leaks on the family room floor, we need to repair the roof."
