In "The Tragedy of Macbeth" by William Shakespeare, the author uses different types of meter to show the difference between nobles, commoners and witches. In this play, like in most of his plays, the nobles speak in verse to make their speeches rhythmic. Usually in iambic pentameter. Commoners usually don't speak in verse they speak in prose. The witches or weird sisters speak in another verse form. They speak in trochaic tetrameter, which differentiates them from all the other characters in the play.
