Four helical compression springs are being designed to support a 200 lbf load. The springs will be placed at each of four corners, and will share the load equally. The springs will each be compressed 1 inch from the free length. The solid height cannot exceed 2 inches, and the free length cannot exceed 4 inches. Springs will be as wound, and they will be manufactured in volume. Squared and ground ends will be used. Do not specify wire diameters with precision beyond 1/100 of an inch.
A static factor of safety of 1.2 will be applied to the solid height of the spring, and a fractional overrun to closure value ( 8 ) of 0.15 will be used to ensure robust linearity. The spring material will be music wire (ASTM A228-51).
Required:
Design the springs, including FOM using MATLAB.

Amass of 1.5 kg of air at 120 kpa and 24°c is contained in a gas-tight, frictionless piston-cylinder device. the air is now compressed to a final pressure of 720 kpa. during the process, heat is transferred from the air such that the temperature inside the cylinder remains constant. calculate the boundary work input during this process.

Describe one experiment in which the glass transition temperature and melting temperature of a totally amorphous thermoplastic material can be determined. show the relevant experimental results in a diagram which should be properly annotated with the two temperatures clearly marked. what is likely to happen to the curve in the diagram if the amorphous polymer is replaced by a thermosetting type?

Air flows over a heated plate àt a velocity of 50m/s. the local skin factor coefficient at a point on a plate is 0.004. estimate the local heat transfer coefficient at this point.the following property data for air are given: density = 0.88kg/m3 , viscosity 2.286 x 10 ^-5 kgm/s , k = 0.035w/mk ,cp = 1.001kj/kgk. use colburn reynolds analogy.
