A concentrating solar power (CSP) plant is planned for a site about 40 miles due south of Albuquerque, NM and about 10 miles east of the town of Belen, NM. The plant will operate with a steam power cycle with a low temperature of 50C, a boiler pressure of 80 bar, and a superheat maximum temperature of 350C. Use NREL’s "Solar Prospector" for solar resource evaluation. What is the approximate total solar concentrator aperture area required to achieve an 80 MW output for the power plant? (note: aperture area = solar concentrator projected area = width (aperture) x length of collector)
