Consider a 2-foot wide rectangular lab flume. Two sharp-crested weirs are available for use: one is a contracted rectangular weir that is 12 inches wide (L = 12 inches) and the other is a v-notch weir with an angleof 90Β°. Either one could be installed in the downstream end of the flume to measure the flowrate. (a) Draw each weir to scale – an end-view as if you are downstream looking back upstream at the weir, not a longitudinal profile. Assume the dimension P (distance from bottom of flume to lowest point of the weir) is 8 inches and the maximum H is 6 inches. (b) If the smallest head over the weir (H) that you can measure is 0.01 ft, what is the lowest flowrate that you can measure with each weir? (c) If the construction of the flume and weirs limits you to a maximum H of 6 inches, what is the maximum flowrate that you can measure with each weir? (d) If you are planning an experiment that requires precise measurement of low flowrates, which weir would be a better choice? Explain why
